Quote from Ball Bearing Turbo :Both.

Math wise this is very simple, and it works in real life and also in LFS for the same reasons.

Think about it:
For your vehicle to get a move on, there has to be a torque generated at the axles of the driven wheels. Though really, most people forget about the fact that the torque at the axles is not just a product of the engine's output, but rather it's a product (even in the mathematical sense) of the entire drivetrain. If I wasn't a lazy SOB I would post some numbers about wheel torque in different gears vs engine output etc, but the concept is straight foward enough.

Wheel torque is directly related to engine torque BY the gear ratios in between the said engine and wheels. The implications of that are what don't occur to everyone right off the bat.

Ok, thanks for the explanation . I just didn't knew that wheel torque is indeed an LFS feature. After reading all this, gearing seemed a much more complicated thing than it used to be, to me. Maybe, as jarmenia said, I should just pay a little more attention to it as I like making my own setups (at least in LFS for now ).

Quote from Scawen :Could you post a hotlap replay example? This sounds completely wrong as it was Y which allowed wall hitting. These test patches include an extra wall type to make sure that hot laps are invalidated.

If you can provide full information, like which version does invalidate these laps and which version does not, that would be helpful. "In the past"... I don't really know which version you mean.

Here's a replay of my WR (RAC/SO3). It's patch Y15 I think... I also have no clue about before patch Y as I started doing hotlaps after it.

Quote from Ball Bearing Turbo :Just don't confuse wheel torque with engine torque. Wheel torque is the key of course since that's the end result...

Just a question: does wheel torque plays a role in LFS or this conversation is about real life?

By the way, really informative thread here guys. I learned a lot of new things .

Every explanation written here sounds logical (at least to me). Only Scawen knows what's going on... We should better ask him..

Quote from srdsprinter :Agree here, the severity of the pentalty could have been increased about 10 fold, and still been too little.

Fortunately for you guys though, the incident did not in fact cost you the race.

------------------------
Cars weaving and speeding through the first SC period did in fact cost team #30 the race, as they got the shaft end of the stick when a wreck occured.

Driving like idiots under caution is plaguing this series, if you can't drive in proximity to others without crashing, get the hell off the track.

Well, in fact the incident was the beginning of the end as staying at the end of the grid has many more troubles than 6th place. A lot of bad driving to avoid and if you are lucky, you live. I wasn't lucky as I hit a kind of roadblock of cars (together with some crazy lag) resulting in my car rolling 2 times upside down and landing with totaled suspension. That was it...Blue flags for the rest of the race etc..

Anyway, what I'm trying to say here is that after watching the replay of the incident involving #30 under SC period, guess who started the problem. Same car that sent me out of the race before it had started... #16 car commits very dangerous driving, and the admins/marshals should be aware of this. That's what I had to say. I hope for a better and safer race next round.

Take care

Penalties:
#16 Dynamic Racing: Spun #03 Adaptive Racing at start, gets SG penalty.

This incident cost my team a whole race and only an SG given? I expect you to do something more in order to avoid such incident from happening again in the future, probably from the same driver/team...

Quote from Victor :I don't know. When I just looked, it said you are not online. But I will have a look at the stats program later today (i have to go out now).

Ok, it seems like it's just a small delay between, i don't know, maybe the application and the website.. or something like that.

Well, I have this problem for the last two days. My online pb page on the lfs desktop claims that i'm racing online while I'm not and my LFS application is closed. When you click on the name of the server my name does not appear on the name list of the server. Yes, I have tried to refresh the page and it's still the same.. Is this a bug?

Quote from Dark Elite :Well, I wondered about that, but I just couldn't think of a reason that would mean less power would cause issues with shifting... I mean, if the ECU has to cut the throttle enough to allow the gearbox to shift, and it's designed to do that at a 450bhp output, then the same throttle cutting should be more than enough for a 330bhp output... So, there shouldn't be any problems.

Anyway, the issue doesn't seem to be anything to do with the power ouput, as the throttle is being cut just fine - that's why we lose speed when we try to do one of the affected shifts - it's the gearbox that's not engaging the next gear. There's no reason I can think of that explains why intake restriction causes this, so that's why I think it's a bug rather than a deliberate feature. Sound reasonable?

Sam

Indeed it sounds reasonable...

You can't go wrong with smooth throttle control and steering, can you?

Quote from March Hare :Yes. And it is WAY easier to drive than the LX6.
I think that getting to know the LX6 will help with my LX4 driving too.
Ofcource I'll practise with the LX4 too but right now my main problem is keeping the LX6 under control.

In my opinion, the only thing that these two cars have in common is the LX initials at their name. Their behavior is totally different so be aware. (At least this is my opinion)

Quote from balee :As he mentioned before: there's no problem with the colour codes.
If the patch will be official, everyone will correct their names, and this won't be trouble again.

Ok, sorry to bring this topic back again but I am really desperate when I see that my name won't fit because of the many different colours. Anyway, I can live with the way it is right now .

There are many options on what's going to follow after patch Z. Yet, we are on Y and I agree with Scrappy, don't care what follows as long as ..it follows . One more thing, Scawen could you please do something with the colour code for the next test patch if it's not much of a trouble. I would like to see my real name with the team tag together for once . Thanks!

I'm in as well. I hope I did sign up correctly . By the way, very pro-style rules and cup. If only we were allowed to use our real names, it would add more prestige.. . Anyways, I'm really glad to give your Cup a try. Very nice organizing so far.

Quote from Flughafen :Don't know how fast Track IR is, but used right i think it's a nice addition to the experience although i think 2 additional screens would be a better investment.

True, I agree. By the way, there should be an option on the poll for those who saw it and liked it but they cannot afford buying it (or something like that anyway...).

Quote from The Radness :Not sure if this is a Patch bug or not(I've only just begun experiencing this), but sometimes while in race with G25 wheel, the steering inputs get changed somehow. ie. its set to 720 then in middle of race(no accidents) it will change to like 110 degrees.
Then I Alt+Tab out and back in; changing nothing; and it works fine. Any ideas? I was driving FZR

P.S. It also happened in XFG after a horrendous accident so I just attributed it to that.

Doesn't seem like a game bug, it's more like a profiler fault. Maybe try reinstalling the logitech profiler. It might help..

Quote from Blizzardo :I'm pretty sure it's a bug, like others posted, it only happens in the restricted FO8 and not the non-restricted ones It's not that hard to workaround it, but it would be nice if it gets fixed soon.

As I said before I experience that problem with FOX too, although not restricted. If this happens on purpose then I will stand it, otherwise if it's a bug I totally agree that it should get fixed as it's very frustrating.

Quote from EQ Worry :Yes, I understand that point very well. But in the end it will be the S2 drivers that will get lots of messages about inability to download skins of demo drivers when they come on any demo server or S2 server currently in demo track/car configuration. And I think they are not used to such errors and they may soon feel frustrated.

Well, if they fell frustrated then why don't they stay only in S2 licensed servers, as they did in previous patches?
Quote from felplacerad :By the way, I welcome the recent changes whole-heartedly, both as an admin and a racer. Keep it up!

Agree!

Well, guys are you sure this is a bug? I'm asking this because somewhere in the forum I read that in patch Y, apart from the CT, there is another added feature, mishifting (if that's how it's spelled) and it's occurring in sequential gearboxes with throttle-cut such as FO8/FJR, FOX etc. And i'm saying FOX because I have that problem with shifting with it as well, mostly when trying to shift from 5th to 6th going full throttle. I try to shift with easing up the throttle in order to prevent mishifting.

P.S. Please correct my above statement if you think that it's wrong.. Thanks

Well music is on sometimes for me when i'm racing. When the races are huge in length, I have to do something so as not to get bored, especially when the server is kinda empty. Other than that, music is off in order to be guided by the engine sound.

+1 to sometimes
